I'm frequently on the freeways... and I see the 18 wheelers that are moving very fast... and right or wrong about the speed limit.. these trucks cannot stop in a short distance..
I see them tailgating I mean very close that if something were to happen they may only have time to put their foot on the brakes but not actually have time to even press it.. considering the speed and "lack" of distance..
Give them the Road... your life is worth more than a matter of seconds trying to battle with them for a patch of road..
if you want to pass them.. " flash your lights"... if you see them coming across the line " bump your horn".. when you pull out to pass them... go ahead and do so.... driving along side them on a open highway is not in your best interest.. and by all means.. don't pull in front of them and slow down..
when I ride a bike.. I don't tail gate them..they have frequent loss of rubber from their tires, they run over things that fly up .. and I've even seen where mud flaps have flown off and may be laying on the road.. you can't see it till the truck passes it and then the wind may make it fly up..... and .. that is a force you can't withstand..
recently I saw one run over a peeled away tire.. and it flew up and it struck the next three cars behind it.. it will damage your car and maybe you too.
These things may look like they are giant passive vehicles.. but by no means is it such... it is a multi tonnage vehicle, that is incapable of quick stops on a dime, it is incapable of quick turn, it is not designed for quick maneuvers. it's purpose is to pull heavy loads..
but what every you think about it.. or information you know about it...it's is best that you keep your eyes open.. and make sure you don't put yourself in a situation where you are in challenge or conflict with it..
when the freeway or road narrows.. and curves are there... it's not a good thing to be along side or trying to pass.. people do cross over the dotted lines .. and that can be a bad situation...
so what ever you do... is, think.. drive with care to get to your destination.. you are in your car basically... to get to your destination safely... and the more that remains the prime objective.. the greater your potential to get there safely..
Cars now are made lighter and faster... and pay attention to 'Crash test statics"... those are " low speed test"... and the safety equipment is designed to function at low speeds... but above a certain speed that capability diminishes rapidly...and the car is made of lighter material..
so your change of serious injury or fatality is increased dramatically.. the faster you go..
Just realize.. you will not set a land speed record in your car.. if you want to do that it takes a specially designed car on a selected and closely surveyed designated place for that ... and it's normally on the salt flats or some desert strip designed for that.. and you are not an indy driver on the public streets.. and it's not a place to run test of your car handling skills as if it's a competition of some sort..
pull over and use your cell phone if you are running late... speeding may insure that you "never arrive"... more, than it will assure that you will arrive on time.
Bad weather and wet streets... are very different than clear weather and dry streets..
so just drive and think .. think and drive .. with safety on your mind...
